Dear Governor Brewer (and staff members assigned to read emails),
You’ve stated that the will of the people and the problem of unsecured borders left you no choice but to sign this bill.
Make no mistake, one ALWAYS has a choice to do what is right in the face of adversity.
Yes, I can see how Arizona and Arizonans are facing adversity – but this bill is no way to correct those problems.
You have set back civil rights 40 years or more. Have you not thought of the consequences for your own American citizens of Mexican descent? Of any families of immigrants from anywhere in the world? And what of crimes committed against undocumented workers or their relatives, who could be young children? Surely they will not report these to the police now. What effect do you think this will have on law and order? Arizona will become a magnet for those who wish to perpertrate petty crimes and robberies, at best, or hate crimes against a scared population, at worst. Think about it.
Thinking is what you should have done when considering this bill. It seems you only calculated what was the politically feasible thing to do.
Shame on you (staff members too).
I will now go out of my way to disconnect from anything ARIZONA. I suspect your commerce will take a major hit from the withdrawl of millions of dollars from persons like myself. None of my family’s tourist dollars will end up in your state again (unless there is a change of heart or a collective coming to senses from your office).
Good luck with your border problem – now you have bigger issues to deal with.
